The action at Paris 2024 shows no sign of slowing down, with 23 Olympic gold medals up for grabs on Day 12.

Great Britain’s Matthew Hudson-Smith won a 400m silver medal at last year’s World Championships but was unable to upgrade that to gold in Paris as America’s Quincy Hall pipped him on the line to claim gold.

In the velodrome, the men’s team pursuit had to settle for silver in their final with Australia before the women’s team pursuit quartet succeeded in their bid for bronze against Italy.

Andy Macdonald became the oldest skateboarder in Olympic history when he represented Team GB in the park event this morning, although the 51-year-old failed to make it through the preliminary round and will take no part in the final.

Boxing golds will be won in the men’s 63.5kg and 80kg categories, with potential future stars of the professional sport in action.

Home hero Sofiane Oumiha boxes for France against Cuba’s Erislandy Alvarez at 63.5kg, with Kazakhstan’s Nurbek Oralbay fighting Ukraine’s Oleksandr Khyzhniak at 80kg.

    Medal table after Day 12

    Ben Fleming

So it’s three medals for Team GB – two silvers and one bronze – after another pulsating day of action in Paris.

There’s now quite some distance between Britain and Australia in third but they could still overtake the hosts France.

    Taiwan’s Lin Yu-ting into women’s boxing final

    Ben Fleming

Lin Yu-ting is the second female boxer, alongside Imane Khelif, to have faced intense scrutiny over their inclusion in the women’s Olympic boxing.

Lin was disqualified from last year’s World Championships after reportedly failing a gender eligibility test but has been cleared to compete in Paris.

And the Taiwan fighter has put all that to the back of her mind to overcome Turkey’s Esra Yildiz Kahraman and reach the final.

Here’s what the Brit had to say after his silver medal:

“I didn’t even know they were here!” 😆

New Olympic record in the discus

    Ben Fleming

It’s a new Olympic record from Jamaica’s Roje Stona to take a surprise gold and win the men’s discus gold.

Lithuania’s world record holder Mykolas Alekna with the silver and Australia’s Matthew Denny in bronze.

Back to the track and it’s 3000m Steeplechase gold for Soufiane El Bakkali who successfully defends his title.

    So close for Hudson-Smith

    Ben Fleming

The British runner is still very emotional after that race as his friends and family console him trackside.

It’s a new European record and the fifth fastest 400m time of all time but it’s still not enough for gold. Gutting.

Hudson-Smith loses 400m gold medal on the line

    Ben Fleming

It’s a great start from Hudson-Smith who surges into the lead coming into the home straight.

Can he hold on? It looks like he might…but it’s stolen on the line by Quincy Hall!

A huge final straight from the American who snatches the gold away from the Team GB runner on the line. It’s a great silver for the Brit but he’s visibly emotional at missing out on what would have been a famous gold.

    Hudson-Smith emerges

    Ben Fleming

Out comes the Brit onto the track – has he got one more big run in him to make history for Team GB?

    Impressive from Anning

    Ben Fleming

Well, it’s third time lucky for Team GB in the women’s 400m semi-finals as Amber Anning runs a PB to finish second behind Poland’s Natalia Kaczmarek but, crucially, book her place in Friday’s final.

She’ll be hoping to add to her relay bronze then.

    All eyes on Hudson-Smith

    Ben Fleming

He’s one of the favourites for gold in the men’s 400m final which gets underway in just over ten minutes.

Can he get the first gold medal for Team GB in the event since Eric Liddell100 years ago…

Laviai Nielsen unable to reach 400m final

    Ben Fleming

The Team GB runner already has a bronze medal for GB’s mixed 4x400m relaybut won’t be able to add to that tally in the women’s 400m.

She runs a good race – especially after being shown a yellow card for a false start – but her time and third-place finish in the semis won’t be enough to see her through to the final.

Noah Lyles through to 200m final

    Tom Olver

Noah Lyles, the newly crowned 100m Olympic champion, books his place in the final of the men’s 200m.

However, Lyles finished second in his semi-final, with Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo storming home in first place with a time of 19.96 seconds.

Is the American superstar saving himself for tomorrow night’s final?

    Chalmers falls in 400m hurdles

    Tom Olver

It’s heartbreak for Alastair Chalmersin the third semi-final of the men’s 400m hurdles!

The Team GB athlete appears to lose all momentum approaching the seventh hurdle and clatters into the barrier.

Roshawn Clarke of Jamaica and the USA’s Rai Benjamin cruise through to the final in the automatic qualification spots, finishing first and second respectively in the semi-final.

    What the bell?!

    Tom Olver

Get ready for yet more bell ringing from gold-medal winning athletes in the Stade de France over the coming hours…

The likes of Keely Hodgkinson, Noah Lyles andJulien Alfred have all got in on the act at this summer’s Games.

But where has this idea come from? Has it happened at previous Olympics down the years?

Why do athletes ring the bell in the Stade de France at the Paris 2024 Olympics?

Bronze for Team GB in women’s team pursuit

    Tom Olver

It’s bronze for Team GB in the women’s team pursuit!

After the men’s team claimed silver in their final, the British quartet of Elinor Barker, Josie Knight, Anna Morris and Jess Roberts came from behind to defeat Italy in a spirited ride.

The United States got the better of New Zealand in the gold-medal contest after beating Team GB en route to the final.

    A moment to treasure

    Tom Olver

Team GB’s Daniel Bigham shared the sweetest moment with his family after the men’s team pursuit final.

The British quartet had to settle for silver, with Australia winning gold in the velodrome.

‘He is just learning to stand up and he is looking over the barrier. It is pretty cool, pretty, pretty cool,’ Bigham said of his baby boy after the race.

    Medal milestone for Great Britain

    Tom Olver

Team GB’s silver in the men’s team pursuit means Great Britain have now won 1,000 medals since the first modern Olympics in 1896.

Can the women’s team pursuit team, followed by Matthew Hudson-Smith, make it 1,001 and 1,002 this evening? Only time will tell.

Hudson-Smith and his 400m rivals will take to the track at the Stade de France at around 8:20pm UK time.
